On 12 August 2022, a mass shooting occurred in Cetinje, Montenegro, which left ten people dead and six others injured. The gunman, identified as 34-year-old Vučko Borilović, was then shot and killed by an armed civilian after engaging in a gun battle with responding officers. It is the deadliest mass shooting in Montenegro's history.
Shooting
At about 3:30 p.m. on 12 August 2022, an argument arose between Borilović and the family that were sub-tenants in his home in Medovina neighborhood in Cetinje. Borilović then fatally shot the family members, including two children. He proceeded to go outside and randomly shoot civilians on the street. The shooting took place near the National Museum of Montenegro.
After police officers arrived, Borilović refused to surrender and shot at them, injuring one. He also fired at an ambulance to prevent them from treating the victims. Borilović then ran towards the Eagle's Rock, although the police began shooting at him. Later, he was shot and killed by a local citizen. A number of streets around the location of the shooting remained closed.
According to Vijesti, during the shootout between Borilović and the police, fellow citizen N. K. shot him dead with a pistol.
Victims
Initially, twelve people were reported to have died at the scene, although it was later confirmed that eleven people were killed, including Borilović. An eight-year-old and an 11-year-old were killed in Borilović's home, while their mother succumbed to her wounds in a local hospital. The other seven victims were civilians shot in the street, while an additional six civilians were injured. Two of the wounded victims were sent to a hospital in Cetinje to be treated for their injures. The other four suffered from life-threatening injuries and were sent to the Podgorica Clinical Center.

- Milan Mitrović, 37, a neighbor
- Goran Đurišić, 54, an uncle of Borilović
- Aleksandra Radunović, 52, a neighbor, sister of Danijela Radunović
- Danijela Radunović, 51, a neighbor, sister of Aleksandra Radunović
The following six individuals were wounded by Borilović:
- Aleksandar Drecun, 32, a grandson of Danijela and Dimitrije Drecun
- Slavica Zvicer, a neighbor
- Filip Đurković, a neighbor
- Mileva Ramadanović, a neighbor
- Darinka Čelebić, a neighbor
- Ljubiša Maksimović, a police officer
Motive
The authorities did not disclose the details and motives that led Borilović to commit the brutal act, as of 13 August. According to a Borilović's cousin, a motive for the shooting was unpaid rent.

Vučko "Vuk" Borilović (Montenegrin: Вучко "Вук" Бориловић) was born on 21 November 1988 in Cetinje, SR Montenegro. He was educated in Cetinje and Belgrade. Borilović was a hunter and worked as a bartender. He did not have a criminal record.
Reactions
President Milo Đukanović and Prime Minister Dritan Abazović both said the shooting "is an unprecedented tragedy". Abazović subsequently declared a three-day mourning period. Zoran Brđanin, the director of the Montenegrin Police, said that "it is not known yet what prompted Borilović to such a heinous act". Patriarch Porfirije and Metropolitan Joanikije II of Montenegro sent their condolences.
Multiple foreign leaders have expressed their condolences too, namely the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željko Komšić, President of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.
In the name of the European Union, Josep Borrell and Tonino Picula have also expressed condolences.
Due to the declaration of a day of mourning, matches of the First and Second Leagues of Montenegro in football, as well as the holding of other sports events, were cancelled. A planned visit by Patriarch Porfirije to Herceg Novi was also postponed.
