Ethinylestradiol/norethisterone acetate, also known as ethinyl estradiol/norethindrone acetate, is a combination of ethinylestradiol and norethisterone acetate which is used as birth control.[1] Ethinylestradiol is an estrogen while norethisterone acetate is a progestin.[1] It is taken by mouth.[1]

In 2016 it was the 55th most prescribed medication in the United States with more than 14 million prescriptions.[2]

Brand names

Brand names include Anovlar, Blisovi, Cumorit, Estrostep, FemHRT, Fyavolv, Gildess, Junel, Larin, Leribane, Loestrin, Mibelas, Microgestin, Minastrin, Norlestrin, Primodos, Taytulla, Tri-Legest

In addition, the combination is marketed in the United States under the brand name FemHRT for use in hormone replacement therapy for menopausal symptoms.[3]
