Haydenshapes Surfboards is an Australian performance surfboard.[1] brand founded by designer and entrepreneur[2] Hayden Cox in 1996, sold worldwide. Haydenshapes most notable[3][4] design is the Hypto Krypto model, and the brand is known for their use of parabolic carbon fibre frame surfboard technology FutureFlex[5] also created and patented by Hayden Cox. The Haydenshapes core team of professional athletes include influential[6] free surfer Craig Anderson[7] ( Quiksilver ) and surfer Creed Mctaggart[8] ( Billabong. )

History

Haydenshapes Surfboards was founded in 1996 by Hayden Cox in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, at the age of 15 whilst still in high school at the time. After snapping his favourite surfboard and not having the money available to purchase a new one, he decided to make one instead.[9] In 2006 Haydenshapes launched newly invented and patented FutureFlex (formally known as FiberFlex, created by Hayden Cox[5]) a parabolic carbon fibre frame technology, a modern take on the traditional "wooden stringer" surfboard design. In 2011, Haydenshapes signed a global distribution deal[10] that launched the brand globally into 70 countries. In 2013, Haydenshapes opened a US manufacturing facility and office in El Segundo, California[9]

Haydenshapes currently manufacture surfboards in Australia, USA and Thailand[11][12]

Awards

Haydenshapes Surfboards most notable awards include Surfboard of the Year for the Hypto Krypto design for two years consecutively[13] in 2014[14] and 2015[15] at the Australian Surf Industry Awards held by the Surf and Boardsports Industry Association (SBIA). Haydenshapes also received a design nod for style and innovation in the 'Sports and Leisure' category at the prestigious Australian Good Design Awards in 2014.[16]

Other awards include news.com.au Entrepreneur of the Year in 2011 and winner of ABC Television's The New Inventors series (episode 26) awarded to Haydenshapes Founder, Hayden Cox.[17]
